Harvey and Marilyn Diamond are the
bestselling authors of Fit for Life, a program that helps dieters lose
weight and eliminate toxins by changing when they eat and in what
combinations. In their book, the |
| Diamonds state that in order for
your body to absorb nutrients and eliminate toxins, proteins and starch
foods should never be combined together. Their theory is that enzymes
produced by the digestive system when protein is consumed, and enzymes
produced when starches are consumed, essentially cancel each other out. The
digestive process is thus halted, which causes food to essentially putrify
in your system. The result is the creation of toxins, which can cause low
energy and general malaise. |

| The plan incorporates consumption of certain
foods, based upon the natural body cycle, broken down as: (1) eating and
digestion (noon to 8:00 p.m.), (2) absorption and use (8:00 p.m. to 4:00
a.m.) and (3) elimination of body wastes and toxins (4:00 a.m. to noon). An
emphasis is placed on consumption of high water content foods to aid in
elimination of toxins and overall health. Fruits and vegetables are the main
focus of the plan.

with meals for the remainder of the day. Proteins and starches are not to be
combined at any meal. |

| The Diamonds do not place limits on food and feel that
“dieting” and rigid food restrictions are unnecessary in maintaining a
healthy weight and vibrant energy. Instead, weight loss is a wonderful side
effect of following this plan, which is high in nutrition and low in
calories. Indeed, many followers of the plan claim that they are never
hungry. The book also provides meal plans and delicious recipes. |
